Women~
In the video, "Killing us Softly", we see how women are depicted in the media and how they are made out to be objects. What makes this video great is the little jokes she throws in throughout the documentary to point out the facts. She said she saw pattern that creates a statement that women are just used as sexual objects and that young women have a lot of power when it comes to beauty. I, myself, work in the industry and know exactly what she is talking about. Models will almost do anything for money, no matter what the exposure is. One of my friends was handed an opportunity to do a risque advertisement for a company in New York, and after talking to her about it for several hours, she decided not to do it. Women think that beauty conquers everything and they overlook that they are not judged as "women", but more as objects that help companies sell products. She also mentions, which stood out to me, the fact that the whole point of advertising is to sell products. Advertising agencies do have some rules, but they are very far from the topic of ethics. Their main goal is to sell product, "X", no matter what the stakes are and how it might make women seem. Of course, there a few male ads that depict men in certain ways, but those usually make them seem strong and powerful whereas women are simply shown as sexual objects. "Not fully human", is what she mentions how women are depicted, if not objects, then they are running around fields, wearing leopard clothing or having their faces painted to depict a wild animal. This is completely absurd and still seems to be continuing on in today's society.
