The American Dream - Fictitious Reality

Living the American Dream is something that many aspire to obtain. There are many that feel the American Dream is this idea of a big house, white picket fence and a dog. But to me, the American Dream has always been more than just that. My parents taught me while growing up that we were privileged for being able to live in America and that the American Dream is about experiencing freedom. Freedom to live your life the way you want. Freedom to pursue your passions. Freedom to make a living doing whatever gets you up in the morning. They also taught me that our class shouldn’t matter. To treat all people equally. So many people have sacrificed that dream for what they thought would bring them happiness – making a lot of money and buying really nice things. In the process, they have burdened themselves with too many possessions and too much debt. And true freedom now alludes them.  Yet for many other the American Dream is essentially an entrepreneurial quest. America itself is an entrepreneurial country, founded in opposition to a foreign government that restricted freedom. This model of pulling yourself up by your boot-straps has long been part of our culture.  You can pursue “the American Dream” wherever you are. You can pursue the American Dream no matter who you are. And lastly, you can be an entrepreneur no matter who you work for. Bring on the American Dream!
