Fans

In class this past week, we discussed fan fiction.  I thought it was interesting for everyone to look at the pictures that Catherine passed out.  Picture after picture, we all kind of looked at the pictures like ‘these people are crazy, who does this?’, when in fact at some point or another in our lives, we have all done it.  Whether it is going to a sporting event, a concert, or midnight movie premiere of our favorite book series, we have all participated in this fan fiction in some way.  I think people just have different levels of what kind of fan they are, some may not be as extreme as others but everyone is a fan of something in some way.  I think as a whole though, that the level of being a fan can be a little too extreme.  Following a certain celebrity or band around the country is a little crazy.  I found it even crazier that there is a fan base for a commercial that was played on the show community that only aired for 15 seconds, but now has gained thousands and thousands of viewers on its website.  That is taking it a little too far.
