Fandom and Baseball

I have always thought that people who were obsessed fans with things were always crazy and a little strange. I thought people who are extreme fans such as Star Trek “Trekkies”, Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters”, or people obsessed with Harry Potter were a bit over the top especially when these fans dress up in a certain way or travel around the country for certain events.  However, last night when I was at the White Sox game I realized I was not much different from these people at all.  My whole life I have always been a huge baseball and White Sox fan but never thought of it as a crazy obsession.  But the more I thought about it, I am really not much different from “Trekkies” or “Little Monsters”.  I own dozens of White Sox shirts and always wear one to the game, I yell and get really passionate about the game whether I am watching it in person or on TV, and I even travel to at least one different baseball park every year to see the Sox play at a different stadium.  These are the exact same qualities that I have always found strange about other extreme fans, but I realized that I share these qualities by being a White Sox fan.  I think almost everyone is an extreme fan of something, but they just do not think about it.  Whether it is sports, a movie, or a singer, I think people who are extreme fans of any of these things are quite similar.
