Fan Culture: Creating the Popular.

Fan culture extends beyond the individual. Some fans continue to talk about the individual even after their death. Historically, fan culture has played an enormous role in the creation and development of the individual. Even after the “stars” death fans continue to create this culture that helps support their public life and reason for stardom. Reason being is that these individuals in some way have left a significant impact on the lives of their fans. I have determined that fandom and the culture they create relies on a method of communication from within. Sometimes formulating a fictitious reality about the individual. When singer Whitney Houston died her fan community created a false concept of how she died. Many didn’t want to believe drugs were involved. By these fans formulating their own reality it creates this imaginary world that deploys an artistic concept in the minds of fans about individual. Essentially affirming that we create popular culture.
