On Tuesday, when watching the video in class, it made me
think of the TV I watch on a daily basis and how it effects how I feel about
society today. The video opened my mind
onto shows that I thought were not meant to discourage races and other people
but to encourage them. For an example,
The Cosby show. In previous classes I
have taken, they mark the Cosby Show as advancement in black culture in
television. In this most recent video,
they state the opposite. The show gave a
false face on what african-american people should do to make them better. Alot the shows didn’t show what it was truly
to live in a ghetto or live the life the average African American person lives. This also translates into shows with
women. There have been many shows were
women figures are the head of the household but they never show that they can
do it on their own. The show that came
closest was Rosanne. It showed an
empowered woman, with multiple jobs and was successful in what she was doing
for money. This would have had a greater
effect if not the story or Rosanne Barr, the creator and producer of the show,
was a terror to work with and was a drama queen about everything.
