In class on Tuesday, we talked about Barbie and how it is
still such a popular doll for children today. It was interesting to see how far she has come. Even though there is no substitute that
could replace Barbie, that being a tall blonde with long hair, skinny frame and
big boobs, it is good to see that the corporation has also made her into a
student, a business woman, a mom, and many others. I liked how Annie mentioned that they were thinking of
making a cancer Barbie for children who were suffering through cancer. It is good to see the company expand
their horizons with the original Barbie design by creating more relatable
Barbie’s while still being able to maintain the Barbie that has made billions
of dollars throughout the years. I
also like how like in the video, Killing Us Softly, how they talked about
different ads and Barbies being unrealistic for consumers. I believe this to be true but I am glad
that Matell has slowly made her image better.
