Killing us softly

The clips talk about advertisements in which women are portrayed in our culture. Everything is somehow about marketing,. These advertisements are quick easy and influential. We process them such as fish swim in water, it has become part of our environment. Selling concepts of sex, sexuality, normalcy and ideal female beauty. Women are taught from an early age to spend a long amount of time trying to achieve this perfection which is nearly impossible because these images are constructed with the use of technology. When women cannot achieve this perfection, they feel failure and develop low self esteem. Even with race, women of lighter skin is deemed more desirable, because of the emphasis on body perfection.  Women's bodies have been objectified  to sell for advertisements which have been linked to violence towards women. So women learn from early ages that its all about looks and perfection.

  1. Title: Not very Lady-Like...

Blogger Khalid E, mentions and provides this idea about how we (a society of Western culture) are like fish swimming in water. We are given these advertising and marketed these ideas that are portrayed in mainstream media and we act on them. Like fish are taught from an early age to go to the top of the tank for food and these same fish will find it normal if they always have lived in a tank. Young women are much like these fish Blogger Khalid E, I think feels when he states this. It is important to see and realize that our youth are taught ideas of sex, their sexuality and normalcy. They are given ideas, concepts, and models of what female beauty is and should be. These ideas are taken and attempted to be replicated no matter the cost. Blogger Khalid E, states that some of these images are constructed with the use of technology and not even completely real. Many of these young women don’t know that and will go through any lengths to meet this idea of perfection. That we in Western culture support, help construct, and promote. Now this doesn’t seem very lady like… now does it!
