Pursuit of Happiness

The clip that we watched in class from The Pursuit of Happiness was really interesting.  We talked about dominant ideas being spread from the elite to the lower classes, these ideas usually supress the lower class and challenge their abilities to succeed. I thought it was very blatant in the basketball clip, Will Smiths character was apparently raised being told what is possible for him to do, and what was not. Without even thinking he put the same constraints on his son, after he told his son he probably wouldn't be a very good basketball player, he saw the effect that statement had on his son.  I feel like his son's reaction made him take an outsiders perspective and see how these socially constructed restraints hold people back from potentially being great at something.  I think people should analyze certain things we have always been told about our abilities, and challenge the source.  Our society takes a loss when people are constrained, the only people who benefit are those in power.
