Television

People like serial narratives for a variety of reasons.  It could be a way for them to get some drama and excitement in their lives or simply because they like the suspense that follows with serial narratives.  Viewers like to get left with a cliff hanger and are attracted to the type of show where they can see people grow throughout the season and watch what happens to them.  An example of a serial narrative would be the beginning few seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.  That show constantly left viewers with cliff hangers and always delivering suspenseful episodes.  Reality shows have a way of bringing viewers in with more than just delivering cliff hangers and suspenseful moments.  Throughout the scenes in a reality show, they are constantly explaining their feelings and their every move on camera which in a way gives viewers the sense of being connected to the character.  In a way, I believe you can tie these two types of TV shows together because they are both soap operas since there is always drama.
