One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill is a teen soap opera on The CW. This show has been on for 9 seasons. Many people don't watch this show or any other soap operatic type shows, but apparently it has been doing something right to have last for 9 years. One Tree Hill deals with story lines that can last for any amount of time. For example one of the characters shot his brother because he thought that he was trying to kill him, but he didn't find out until a season or 2 later that it was his wife who had tried to kill him and not his brother, but there are also conflicts that are solved within the next episode. With all the semi unrealistic drama that this show deals with why is it that it is so popular? I believe that it is the "gap-filling" as well as the serial narrative that this show deals with. There is drama between friends, family, and lovers that viewers can relate to on some levels. For instance the whole show started with two brothers who have the same dad but different mom. Although a lot of people can relate to this there is the other half that can. I think that the most relatable aspect for viewers with this show is the idea of friendship and its up and downs that you have. With its final season currently on OTH is pulling out all the serial narrative stops that they can. The entire final season focuses on one of the main characters looking for her kidnapped husband. This is not as widely relatable as other plot lines but is one of the best season it has has in a while.
