The Help
I recently watched "The Help" with my younger sister. She had already seen the movie many times before and really enjoyed it so her watching it with me gave me a biased view. I cried when she cried and I laughed when she laughed. I thought it was a really good movie afterwards. However, through Tumblr I saw many critiques made about "The Help" that I hadn't thought about. People critiqued that the movie was all about white people helping black people out for a little bit and then leaving and taking most of the credit. This movie definitely held the term "magic Negroes" in it. The help teach Emma Stone's character that beauty isn't everything and that being smart is just as important. They give Stone the power to become a famous journalist by giving Emma Stone their stories. It looks as if they hold a major part in the movie but the real story is Emma Stone's journey. Everything is really based off of Emma Stone and how she will ultimately succeed in life. She gets to get out of the town with a promising job while one of the ladies gets fired and most of the help are still treated poorly.
