In class this week, we talked about stereotyping. I was trying to think of a good example of this when I decided to watch the movie Meet the Parents. In the movie, Ben Stiller gets picked on by employees and family members about being a male nurse. Throughout the film, he gets little jabs for his role in the medical field and often cannot be taken seriously because he is a male nurse and not a doctor. I think it is interesting to see something as little as an occupation be stereotyped. To me, it is interesting and kind of sad to see people get stereotyped for things that do not really define them as a person. But on the other hand, for movies and TV to mock society, I think it sheds some light on the stereotypes and makes them not as serious as some people take them.
