Today
I was looking through Twitter and came across a post from People that said
“Shakira Nearly Attacked by a Sea Lion in South Africa”. When I read that I
obviously thought the attack was really server, thinking she got torn apart by
this large animal. I then clicked on the article to read the whole story
and saw a pretty picture of Shakira sitting on the rocks relaxed by a ocean and
a close up of her hand with a small bite mark (the size of a pea) on her wrist.
I was shocked because the way they framed the story it sounded like she was
brutally attacked, I thought she would have open wounds and bruises everywhere
when all they showed was a very small bite mark on her hand. Reading the
article she goes on to say
“Suddenly one of them jumped
out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from
me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me….i was paralyzed
by fear and couldn’t move.”
It
is funny how authors frame articles to get the readers attention just like this
one got my attention. They should have titled this story “Sea Lion Scared
Shakira” or “Sea Lion Scare” rather than us all thinking there was a brutal
attack. When people tweet out just the title of a news story they need to know how to frame it, because us readers jump to conclusions based on titles.
