The following video is a commercial that aired during the 2010 Super Bowl. I chose to talk about this commercial because of who it targets and how it targets the demographic. Basically, this commercial follows the life of a "typical" white male. Throughout the commercial it really defines what it is to be a man and how to achieve the manly status. We can see a clearly heterosexual marriage, a family with children, and the man receiving all the nagging from his wife to do things men are "supposed to do" (like fix the car). So what I got from this was, to be a man, one must be a white male, must be heterosexual, eventually get married and have children, and ultimately do all the stereotypical things society tells us men should do. With this being said, homosexual males aren't represented in this ad, and relationships that reject traditional family roles also aren't represented. Despite the fact that this commercial is targeted to, what they think, is the largest demographic (white males), its still interesting to see how men are expected to live their lives and how the media contributes to that idea.
