Masculinity is overrated
Jackson Kitz's video hit me on a really deep level. The clips shown in the beginning were just astounding (not in a good way). It kills me how tough men think they have to be. I know for myself, I'm a pretty sensitive guy. I don't walk around trying to put up a front or try to be a "hard-ass" because it's just not in my personality, but that's me being my most authentic self. I don't think I'm alone in being a sensitive person. I think everyone is in touch with their emotions because that's how they know themselves, but it's the people who are confident in breaking the "norm" that feel comfortable living their most natural personalities. It's most evident in the gym because working out and lifting weights has been labeled as one of the most masculine activities a guy can get involved in, so it's a great place to witness the "hard-ass" mentality play out. Almost 95% of the guys I see in the gym walk around puffing out their chests and grunting not out of struggle from a heavy weight, but because they feel it's making them look "tougher" and impressing the other guys around them. I know numerous people who act tough out in public around strangers but then all of a sudden are the most down to earth & friendly people when you get them in a one-on-one hangout. I wish I could change this notion, but I'm afraid it's constantly reinforced by popular culture and media on a daily basis. I dream of a day people can understand that it's okay to be their most genuine selves.
